Cosplay costumes are often made to order, and are a good quality level. costumes under $100 use mostly cotton and poly/cotton and are made in China. Some of them are made of pleather for a leather look. Costumes over $100 have a custom, distinct look

Full costume kits with accessories that are less than $50, unless it's something simple like a toga or a nun's robe, are not professional grade costumes. These costumes are good inexpensive choices for Halloween, or a party, they are made of polyester, some cotton and maybe some plastic, and are nice for a night out. Material cost alone on a high quality costume will generally be well over $50. If the costume is marked "DELUXE" or "DLX" it's a real industry quality term for a higher quality costume. It will come with quality accessories and/or is made of higher end materials that offer more attention to details in the costumes construction.

Expensive costumes prices at (more than $200), are probably a rental-grade or professional grade costume. These types of costumes are molded from original character designs and are produced with excellent quality materials for durability. Costumes that say "rental quality" are also made of superior construction, and designed to be used over and over again.

Design and construct a costume yourself? It's actually quite easy. Buy a couple accessories here, (wig, makeup, cape). Then visit a thrift store to put your idea all together. Or buy a book on costume making to see how easy it is to do.
